In times of change and crisis – when organizations must face new threats, anticipate emerging trends, and adapt for new possibilities – successful leaders need counsel that is informed, candid, and creative. For nearly 30 years, business and political leaders at the apex of decision-making have called upon David Castagnetti for his unique perspective, experience, and willingness to examine assumptions.
From board rooms to cloakrooms, David informs strategies for navigating fast-paced economic, social, and technological change. He has extensive experience developing long-term strategic communications and advocacy plans to respond to rapidly changing events. His ability to operate in complex environments has made David a trusted counselor to Boeing, Citigroup, Hewlett-Packard, Humana, Procter & Gamble, United Airlines, Walmart and numerous other Fortune 100 companies, Silicon Valley titans, technology start-ups, trade associations, and well-known non-profits.
In addition to communications, legislative and regulatory matters, David helps organizations think through integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance factors. He is a regular presenter at board meetings, executive retreats, and annual conferences, and his leadership has been recognized by publications such as BusinessWeek, Washingtonian Magazine, The Hill, and Congressional Quarterly.
David honed his perceptive listening and creative problem-solving in the trenches of Washington. Before joining the private sector, David played a first-hand role in shaping policy on Capitol Hill. As Chief of Staff to two committee chairmen – Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) of the Senate Finance Committee and Congressman Norm Mineta (D-CA) of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee – David contributed to some of the most important policy advancements in decades in the areas of trade, tax, transportation, and technology. David was also tapped separately by both parties to shepherd critical political priorities. The administration of President George W. Bush asked David to lead the successful confirmation of Rep. Mineta as U.S. Secretary of Transportation, and Senator John Kerry named David his chief liaison to Congress during the 2004 presidential campaign and Democratic National Convention.
As a colleague and collaborator, David is well-known for his straight shooting and competitive fire. Not content to win in the near-term only, David commits to thinking through dynamics that are over the horizon. As companies navigate highly regulated markets, respond to new market entrants, neutralize legislative threats, and seize new policy opportunities, David also works to ensure that they consider the evolving expectations for leaders and organizations, and take steps to meet those expectations.
David is a graduate of Lake Forest College and the John McCormack Institute at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He has mentored hundreds of young people over the course of his career. The successful firm that bears his name is well-known for its bipartisan reach, substantive expertise, communications, and advocacy. David is also part-owner of a minor league baseball team.
